A thermal camera sees what an ordinary inspection cannot: a breaker or connection running hot behind a closed panel cover. It is the fastest way to know whether an older home's electrical system is safe.

When homeowners ask for infrared imaging
- Buying or selling an older home and wanting more than a visual inspection.
- Breakers that trip, outlets or switches that feel warm, or a burning smell you cannot locate.
- Panels from brands with known failure histories, before deciding on a replacement.
- After adding large loads such as an EV charger, a heat pump or a hot tub.
- Insurance requirements for older wiring.
What you get
An electrician images the panel, the main connections and accessible wiring while the house is under normal load, explains what the camera shows, and gives you a written report with the thermal images and a plain-English recommendation. Repairs, if any are needed, are quoted at flat rates.
Frequently asked questions
Is infrared imaging the same as an electrical inspection?
It is a component of one. A full inspection also checks grounding, outlets, GFCI and AFCI protection and code issues; imaging adds the ability to see heat problems a visual check misses.
Does it damage or interrupt anything?
No. The panel cover comes off, the camera reads the surfaces, and the power stays on.
