The R1T and R1S use J1772 on earlier model years and NACS on newer ones, with Rivian adapters available.
How fast it charges at home
Rivian vehicles charge at up to 48 amps (11.5 kW) on Level 2, adding roughly 25 miles of range per hour for these large-battery trucks.
Manufacturer and universal chargers
The Rivian Wall Charger is a hardwired 48-amp unit designed for outdoor mounting; any comparable Level 2 charger also works.
Installation notes
Because the battery packs are large, Rivian owners get the most benefit from a full 48-amp installation on a 60-amp circuit rather than a 32-amp plug-in unit.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the Rivian-branded charger?
No. The manufacturer unit works well and is a good choice if you already have it; a universal hardwired charger performs the same and often costs less.
Will my panel handle it?
Usually a 200-amp panel will; many 100-amp panels will not without load management or an upgrade. The load calculation in our assessment answers it, and we quote both options.
